After receiving his undergraduate degree in civil engineering at Tufts University in Boston, Dr. Walsh completed his medical degree at West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia. He completed his neurosurgery residency and fellowship in orthopedic and neurological complex spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Walsh is a member of the North American Spine Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, AOSpine, and International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery.

His research has focused on the biomechanics of the L5/S1 junction in long thoracolumbosacral constructs. Dr. Walsh has medical privileges at Allegheny General Hospital and Forbes Hospital.
